I have tested PlaytestCloud on and off for several years. It is legit and pays well per test, but there are not many tests, especially outside the US, UK and Canada. Below is what I found, and which sites I recommend if you want to earn regularly.

Legit game testing, but too few tests to earn regularly
Decent pay per playtest and no payout threshold. Mainly for testers in the US, UK and Canada who are comfortable thinking out loud.

The short answer
PlaytestCloud is a legit site that will really pay you for testing unreleased games. I have tested it thoroughly and know from personal experience. It pays relatively well, and you do not have to reach a threshold to get your earnings.
But it does not offer a lot of tests, so you cannot expect to earn from it regularly. It is mainly looking for testers in the US, UK and Canada, and you have to think out loud while you play. It is only a good secondary source of extra cash.
- Offers payment via PayPal
- Offers a fun and interesting way to earn extra cash
- Offers decent rewards
- Doesn’t have a payout threshold you need to reach to withdraw your earnings
- Limited earning opportunities
- You will need to take an unpaid test to become a tester
- Very few tests outside the US, UK and Canada
- You must think out loud, in English for most tests
My experience with PlaytestCloud
I have been a PlaytestCloud tester for a few years and have tested it on and off. This is what I did myself, and what I did not test.

Is PlaytestCloud legit and safe?
Yes, PlaytestCloud is legit and will really pay you for testing unreleased games. But is it really worth your time? That is a whole other story. Here is what you should know.
- Few test invites
How much you earn depends on how often you are invited, and you have no control over that. It depends on whether your profile matches any of their clients. There are not a lot of testing opportunities.
- Mainly for the US, UK and Canada
You can join from more or less all countries, but PlaytestCloud is mainly looking for testers in the US, UK and Canada. I have tested it on and off for several years, and there are still very few, if any, tests in other countries.
- You must think out loud
During a test, you talk about what you think while you play, in a quiet room. Most tests are in English. If you are not comfortable speaking your thoughts, this is not the right fit for you.
- A non-disclosure agreement
Before you start a test, you agree to a Non-Disclosure Agreement. You cannot share your experience with a specific game with anyone.
- An unpaid qualification test
To become a tester, you take a 5-minute qualification test that is not paid. If you fail, PlaytestCloud tells you what you did wrong, so you have a better chance next time.
My takePlaytestCloud is one of the better game-testing sites, in my opinion. The reason for this is that it pays relatively well, and you don’t have to reach a threshold to withdraw your earnings. The only downside to this site is that it doesn’t offer a lot of tests. So, you can’t really expect to earn from it regularly. But if you are eligible to join, and you like testing games and have good communication skills, I would recommend you join this site.
PlaytestCloud has too few tests to earn regularly. These sites let you earn on a regular basis, wherever you live.

There are 2 ways to earn. Playtests are the main one. Tap one to read more.
PlaytestsAround $9 per 15 minutes
Test invites come by email, and each one shows how much you earn. There is no tester dashboard: the “Login” button on the website is for clients. So check your inbox regularly.
Download the game, agree to the Non-Disclosure Agreement, and follow the guidelines in the email. You do not install a separate screen recorder; it comes packaged with the game. Tests typically last around 15 minutes, and you think out loud the whole time. Afterwards, you answer a short survey with extra feedback.
The video uploads while you record, so you do not have to wait long at the end. PlaytestCloud then reviews your work, and if everything is in order, you are paid in a few days.
Standalone surveysRare
PlaytestCloud says standalone surveys are a way to earn extra rewards. They are different from the survey after a playtest, and work like normal paid surveys with qualifying questions.
I have not received any survey invites in my years as a member, so do not expect many. If you mainly want paid surveys, use other platforms instead.

How much can you make?
You typically earn around $9 for a 15-minute playtest. That is a decent rate, in my opinion, and longer playtests pay more. You also earn bonus rewards for following the guidelines, like making sure you talk during your testing.
But the amount you earn mostly depends on how often you are invited, and there are not a lot of testing opportunities. So you cannot really expect to earn a lot from this site.
PlaytestCloud also makes it very clear that this is not a job. If you want to make a living by testing games, see the best game tester jobs instead.
How you get paid
| Method | Minimum | Speed |
|---|---|---|
| PayPal, through Tremendous | None | Usually a few days after approval |
| Virtual gift cards, through Tremendous | None | Usually a few days after approval |
| Virtual bank cards, through Tremendous | None | Usually a few days after approval |
You are paid for every test or survey you complete, as soon as PlaytestCloud approves your work. There is no member dashboard to set up your payment details, and payments are processed automatically. So sign up with the same email address as your PayPal account.
I like how they pay you, because it is a very convenient system, and they pay rather quickly compared to many other sites. For more sites like this, see the top sites that pay via PayPal.
How to become a tester
Click the “Become a tester” link in the upper right corner of the PlaytestCloud home page and fill out the registration form. You then receive an email with instructions for the qualification test.
There is no way around this test. It lasts 5 minutes and is not paid. If you pass, you are a tester. If you fail, PlaytestCloud gives you feedback, so you have a higher chance of passing the next time.
During registration, PlaytestCloud hints that you can test PC games. In reality, you only test mobile games, on an Android or iOS phone.
