Is WowApp a Legit or Scam? (Inside Look + Full Guided Tour)

WowApp Rating

WowApp is a worldwide platform that has many interesting and different ways to earn. It can, however, be a bit confusing to use, so it will take some patience. In additon to this, it charges very high payout fees.

I joined WowApp to test it myself, and I have been paid by it. But it is confusing, the payout fees are too high, and you now need daily activity to cash out. Below is my payment proof, what I found, and which sites I recommend instead.

Legit and pays, but high fees and odd cashout rules

Many ways to earn, worldwide. But PayPal costs $1 + 8%, earnings are on hold for 60 days, and you need daily activity to cash out.

Good for you ifYou already use WowApp to call, chat or play games, and any earnings are a bonus.
Skip it ifYou want clear earnings, low fees, or the freedom to cash out whenever you want.

The short answer

WowApp is legit and not a scam. I have been paid by it myself. It has many ways to earn, from surveys and offers to cashback, games and calls, and it is available worldwide in many languages.

But the payout fees are too high: $1 + 8% to PayPal. Earnings are on hold for 60 days, and you now need a certain daily activity before you can cash out. How most earnings are calculated is also not very transparent. There are better platforms with fewer fees.

What I like
  • Free to join
  • Many earning options
  • Available worldwide, in many languages
  • Cash payouts to PayPal, your bank or your credit card
  • Every time you earn, a charity of your choice earns too
What I don’t like
  • Payout fees are too high: $1 + 8% to PayPal
  • You need a certain daily activity to be able to cash out
  • Earnings are on hold for 60 days
  • The way earnings are calculated is not very transparent
  • Can be a bit confusing at first, and it oversells itself

My experience with WowApp

I joined WowApp, used its earning options and cashed out. This is what I did myself, and what I did not test.

Is WowApp legit and safe?

Yes, WowApp is legit. It pays, and I have been paid by it myself. But it has some aspects you need to know about before you join.

  • Payout fees are too high

If you cash out to PayPal, you pay a $1 transaction fee + 8%. Other reward sites charge around 2–3% or a small transaction fee. 8% is the highest I have seen. I gave this feedback to support years ago, and nothing has changed.

  • You need daily activity to cash out

WowApp now requires a certain daily activity before you can request a payout. The more you want to cash out, the more activity you need. If you stop using it for a while, you cannot just come back and withdraw.

  • Earnings are on hold for 60 days

In theory, there is no payout threshold. But everything you earn is on hold for 60 days before you can get it out. In 2022, a reader waited past those 60 days for a second PayPal payout, after a first payout that went fine.

  • Earnings are not transparent

For most earning methods, you do not see what you get right away. WowApp calculates earnings daily, based on how much you use it, how many members are active, and how active your network is.

  • Download the official app only

Several people created apps with similar names to hijack downloads. Make sure you install the official WowApp.

My takeOverall, WowApp is a platform I honestly was quite excited about when I first joined it. However, it has not really gotten rid of some of the aspects I hoped they would like, such as the extremely high and unfair payout fees. This is especially disappointing as the app sells itself as being all about creating more equality and an income opportunity for all.

How you earn on WowApp

There are 8 ways to earn. Instant Earn and cashback are the clearest; most others are calculated daily. Tap one to read more.

Surveys, videos and offers (Instant Earn)Clearest earner
Some of the options in the Instant Earn section

Paid surveys come from third-party providers, so there is a decent number per day. The rewards are about the same as on other survey sites. You will not qualify for all of them.

You can also watch short videos, one every 20 minutes, and get the earnings right away. The offer walls pay you to sign up for contests, download apps and more. Surveys and videos are only in the phone app.

Cashback when you shop online2–10% back
WowApp cashback through online stores

WowApp links to thousands of online stores from all over the world. Shop through its link, and you usually get 2% to 10% back into your WowApp account. For example, I could get 3% back on a hotel through booking.com.

There are better cashback sites with better payout options, though.

Play games onlineSmall
WowApp games

There is a big section of free online games in almost any category. You earn WowCoins by playing, but not much. Do not play just to earn, as other options pay better.

Smart Slide lock screenNo effort

Turn on Smart Slide, and WowApp notifications and news show on your phone’s lock screen. You earn when you unlock your screen. It will not be much, but it takes no effort. WowApp says it uses very little battery.

Browser extensionSmall
WowApp browser extension

The extension for Chrome and Firefox gives you news and surveys while you surf. Its Smart Shopper function tells you when a shop offers cashback through WowApp.

The extension may soon no longer be supported, because it does not follow best practices for Chrome extensions.

Calls and chat10% back on calls

You earn by calling or chatting with other members. Calls between WowApp users are free, like Skype. You can also buy credits to call landlines and mobiles worldwide, and you get 10% of what you spend on calls back into your account. Prices vary by country.

Invite friendsA share of theirs

When friends you invite earn, you earn a percentage too. It does not affect what they earn. How active your network is also affects how much you earn on other methods.

You need an invitation to join WowApp. You cannot join without being connected to an existing user.

UBI daily coinsVery low

WowApp calls it Universal Basic Income: free coins you can claim daily just by using the app. If you do not claim them within 17 hours, they go back to the pot. You will not earn a lot. Calling it a daily income is overselling it.

How much can you make?

It depends on how many options you use and how much time you spend. Cashback and most Instant Earn options are straightforward: you see what you get. Most other methods are calculated daily, based on how much you use the app, how many members are active globally and that day, and how active your network is.

So do not panic if you do not see earnings right after you play games or chat. If you use it regularly for things you do anyway, and invite people who do the same, it can add up over time. But it is not a way to make a full-time income.

Payout methods and fees

MethodFee or note
PayPal$1 + 8%
Bank accountCash straight to your bank account
Credit cardCash to your credit card
Mobile creditUse your earnings for phone credit
Donate to charityGive your own earnings to a charity

You earn WowCoins, and 1 WowCoin is worth $0.01. Every time you earn for yourself, a charity you choose earns too. That is where the slogan “Earn – Share – Do Good” comes from.

There is no payout threshold in theory, but your earnings are on hold for 60 days. You also need a certain daily activity before you can request a payout, and the higher the amount, the more activity you need. For sites with lower fees, see the sites that pay through PayPal.

What 52 readers told me

This review has 52 comments since 2019: 26 from readers and 26 replies from me. These are the three things readers write about most.

When and how you can cash out4 comments

Readers ask about the minimum and how long a payout takes. Earnings are on hold for 60 days, and in 2022 a reader waited longer than that for a second payout.

Readers who use it and like it4 comments

Some readers have used WowApp for years. One wrote in 2020 that they had cashed out since 2016.

Earnings that do not show up2 comments

Most earnings are calculated daily, so you do not see coins right after you play. One reader lost earnings in 2016 and got no clear answer from support.

“Please how long will it take me to cash-out my first earnings as a beginner”

Reader, July 2019
Mikael: In theory, WowApp does not have a payout threshold. But all earnings are on hold for 60 days so after you earn you can not get them out until after 60 days.

“First time I asked for a payout everything went as record. But this time I am waiting … and yet nothing recieved in my paypal account.”

WowApp user, July 2022
Mikael: Sorry to hear that. Did you contact their support?

“I played games alot but I don’t get wowcoins. What is wrong could it be ascam.”

Reader, June 2019
Mikael: No, it is not a scam. But you do not necessarily see money going into your account right when you play. The point system is a bit confusing.

  2. Hi. I am a Wowapp user for a few years now. I do agree regarding the payout. First time I asked for a payout everything went as record. But this time I am waiting from the 4 April 2022 (cashout date) until now. Since the 60 days wait period expired on the 4 June, and yet nothing recieved in my paypal account. I’ve locked a few reports an dont get any reports back
But everyday I use my Wowapp.

  3. I do not recommend WowApp, although I must concede that I used it in 2016 and I do not know if it has improved since then.

Back then, I wasn’t able to chat/text with anyone on the app except my boyfriend at the time (nobody else wanted to join), so I earned via games and surveys. I got cheated out of my earnings by a glitch or something, and when I contacted WowApp, they wouldn’t answer me directly as to why my earnings were suddenly gone. Their reply indicated that I wasn’t entitled to anything because I didn’t use the app to chat or text, and that they had no record that I earned anything whatsoever. I tried to pursue this, but they wouldn’t answer. I felt tricked and that I had used this app for two months, took surveys, sat through ads, and all for nothing. I deleted the app and I still tell people not to use it.

Thanks for the information. Like the surveytime I love it. There’s this hitch I experienced though. After my first survey I was asked to verify my email address. The message was sent to my inbox. By the time I was trying to fill out the form with my email address, it was replying with “use a valid email “.

    • Thanks for the painstaking to enlighten us. The area you might have omitted is the “ranking” in a country. Does the list of names show your position in the entire country or just your down-up liners.
      And what determines your position?

      Thanks
      Urs,

      Reply
      • The ranking is your worldwide ranking among all WowApp users. What determines your position is just simply have much you have earned. But it is a pretty useless feature, in my opinion, since you get nothing out of being ranked.

  12. Hi I am using Wow app and I’m almost halfway to my first 100 coins. You made a clear discussion of how Wow app works and the benefits a member gets from being a part of a community that is also aimed in giving donations for charity.

How quickly you can earn really depends how much you use it and how many people you invite to join as well.
