StepBet App Review 2026: Is It Legit? My Tested Results and Payment Proof

StepBet Rating

If your goal is to find a good app to earn extra cash from, then StepBet isn’t really a great option. But it can be a fun and effective way to stay motivated to move and potentially earn a bit extra at the same time.

I tested StepBet thoroughly and have been paid by it. It is a legit fitness app where you bet on your own step goals, but games take weeks and you can lose your bet. Below is my payment proof, how it works, and which apps I recommend if you want to earn.

Legit, and good for motivation, but not for extra cash

You bet on reaching your step goals in a game of usually 6 weeks. Winners split the pot, paid via PayPal with no threshold.

Good for you ifYou want money on the line to stay motivated to exercise, and you have a supported fitness tracker.

The short answer

StepBet is legit. I have tested it thoroughly and have been paid by it. It is a fitness app where you bet money on yourself: reach your step goal every week of a game, and you share the pot with the other winners.

But you have to bet money, usually $40, and you lose it if you miss a weekly goal. A game usually takes 6 weeks, and there is no guarantee you win a lot. If you want to earn extra cash, StepBet is not a great option. If you want to stay motivated to exercise, it can be a great app.

What I like
  • An interesting way to earn
  • Pays via PayPal
  • No payout threshold
  • If there are many winners, StepBet waives its cut, so winners get their bet back
  • The app is very user-friendly
What I don’t like
  • Limited earning opportunities
  • A game takes a long time to complete, usually 6 weeks
  • You lose your bet if you miss a weekly goal
  • You need a supported fitness tracker

Is StepBet legit and safe?

Yes, StepBet is legit. I have been paid by it. But you bet real money, so here is what you should know before you join a game.

  • You can lose your bet

If you miss a weekly goal, you are eliminated from the game and lose the money you bet. Only the winners get their bet back, plus a share of the pot.

  • Winning does not mean earning a lot

You only earn a significant amount if there are few winners in your game. That also means the goals were hard for most players. With many winners, you may only get your bet back.

  • It takes weeks

A game usually takes around 6 weeks. The fastest game I found was 3 weeks long. The time-to-money ratio is not that good.

  • You need a supported fitness tracker

StepBet sets your step goal from the data in your fitness tracker. If you just started using your tracker, it cannot calculate a goal, so you cannot join a game yet. Use the tracker for a week or so first.

My takeIf your goal is to find a good app to earn extra cash from, then StepBet is not a great option. A game usually takes more than a month, and if you do complete it, there is no guarantee you will earn a lot. But if your goal is to find an app that helps you reach your fitness goals, this can be a great app to use. It will certainly help you stay motivated to keep physically active, because if you don’t, you will end up losing money.

How you earn on StepBet

There is only one way to earn: fitness games. There are two types. Tap one to read more.

Free-to-join gamesUsually a $40 bet
Fitness games on StepBet

Log in to the app to see the games. Press a game to see the details: the bet you have to place, the total number of players and the pot. Press “Join Game” and choose how you track your steps.

StepBet then sets your step goal from your fitness tracker’s earlier data. The goal usually means walking a certain number of steps or running a certain distance. Your step goal stays the same for the whole game, and it can change from game to game.

Meet the goal every week of the game, and you win. Miss it, and you are eliminated and lose your bet. The bet is usually $40, paid via PayPal, credit card or previous winnings.

Members-only gamesLarger pots
StepBet annual membership fee

Premium members can join members-only games. They work the same way, but the pot is significantly larger, so you can win more. A premium membership costs $59.99 for one year, which is not that expensive, in my opinion. As a yearly member, StepBet does not take a cut of the pot.

The competition is a lot stiffer, though. Premium members take the games seriously, so you need a competitive mindset.

Supported fitness trackers

StepBet can only set your goal and follow your steps through a supported fitness tracker. These were the supported trackers when I wrote my review.

PhoneTracker
AnyGarmin trackers
iPhoneApple Health via your phone, Apple Watch, or Fitbit
AndroidFitbit, or Google Fit via your phone

If you do not have a fitness device, I recommend Google Fit. You just need an Android phone with an internet connection to track your steps.

If you just started using your tracker, StepBet cannot calculate your goal yet, so use it for a week or so before you join a game.

How much can you make?

The reward system is a bit unique. Every game has a pot of money and usually multiple winners. StepBet takes a 15% cut of the pot, and the rest is split among the winners. So winners get their bet back, plus an extra amount that depends on the number of winners.

If there are so many winners that they would get back less than they bet, StepBet waives its 15% cut so you get your bet back. So as long as you are among the winners, you do not lose any money.

Overall, I would say StepBet’s earning potential is not that great. But that is not the real value of the app. The best thing it brings to the table is that it helps you stay motivated to keep exercising, because there is money involved.

How you get paid

MethodMinimumNotes
PayPalNo thresholdExchange your points for cash. 1 point = $1.
Your next betNoneUse your winnings to place the bet for your next game

Every game you win gives you points. You can use them for your next bet or cash out to PayPal anytime you want.

Overall, the payment system is relatively straightforward, and I like that it pays via PayPal. For more sites with this method, see the top sites that pay via PayPal.

Who can join StepBet?

StepBet is available globally, so you can register wherever you live. You must be at least 18 years old.

Install the app on your Android or iOS device, and sign up with your Google, Apple or Facebook account, or with your email address and a password. Then link your fitness tracker right away, so you can start joining games.

How the step goal works1 comment

A reader pointed out that your step goal stays the same for the whole game. It can change from game to game. This review now says so.

“Correction, your step goal is the same throughout the entire game. It does not change week to week. It does change from game to game based on your fitness tracker data (goals may increase or decrease).”

Mikael: That is correct. I can see I did not explain that clear enough and have not updated it. Thanks for making me aware.
