Opinium Review – Worth It or Not? (What to Expect)

Opinium Rating

Opinium is a decent site to earn extra cash from as long as you are eligible to join, of course. It offers a simple way to earn, and you can withdraw your earnings conveniently.

I tested Opinium to see if its research studies are worth your time. It is legit and easy to earn from, but it is only open in the UK and the payout threshold is high. Below is what I found, and which sites I would pick first.

Personally Tested Last tested

Legit and easy to use, but UK only with a £25 threshold

No qualifying questions and a decent number of surveys. Best as a secondary site for UK residents.

Good for you ifYou live in the UK and want a simple secondary survey site that pays by bank transfer.
Skip it ifYou live outside the UK, or you want a low payout threshold or a full-time income.

The short answer

Opinium is legit. It is a market research firm that really pays you to take part in its research studies. There is a decent number of surveys, and you do not have to go through a qualifying process for each one.

But it is only available in the UK and Northern Ireland, and you need £25 before you can withdraw. It is not always accepting new members either. It is good for a little extra cash, not a full-time income, so I see it as a secondary site.

What I like
  • Convenient payout by direct bank transfer
  • A relatively easy way to earn: no qualifying questions
  • A decent number of surveys at any given time
  • Mobile-friendly dashboard
What I don’t like
  • Relatively high payout threshold of £25
  • No FAQ or Help page
  • Only available in the UK and Northern Ireland
  • Not always accepting new members

My experience with Opinium

I joined the Opinium panel and answered its research studies. This is what I did myself, and what I did not test.

Is Opinium legit and safe?

Yes, Opinium is legit, because it really pays you to take part in its research studies. But that does not automatically make it worth your time. Here is what you should know before you join.

  • A high payout threshold

You need at least £25 before you can withdraw. That is relatively high. Because there is a decent number of surveys, you can still reach it, but it takes a while at around £0.50 per short survey.

  • Only in the UK, and not always open

Opinium is only available in the UK and Northern Ireland, from age 18. It is also not always accepting new members. If that happens, you have to check back later.

  • Little information for panelists

There is no FAQ or Help page. Most of the information on the website is about the company and getting clients. For any question, you have to email support.

  • Checks are slow

You can choose to be paid by check. It is sent by postal mail, so it can take a while. Direct bank transfer is the most convenient option.

My takeIn my opinion, Opinium is a decent site to earn extra cash from, as long as you are eligible to join, of course. It offers a simple way to earn, and you can withdraw your earnings conveniently. But set your expectations properly: it is only good for earning a little extra cash. That is why I would say it is best as a secondary site.

Opinium is only open in the UK and has a £25 threshold. The top sites in your country give you more ways to earn.

How you earn on Opinium

There are 2 ways to earn. Research studies are the main one. Tap one to read more.

Research studiesFrom £0.50 each
Research studies in the Opinium member dashboard

Once you are a member of the panel, you log in to the member dashboard to see all the studies you can take part in. Opinium also invites you to surveys by email, so you do not have to log in every time to check.

Most studies are surveys. From time to time, you are also asked to take part in a focus group. If you see a study or get an invite, you already qualify for it. So there is no qualifying process like on most other survey sites.

Most surveys have only around 10 to 12 questions, so you can finish them in less than five minutes. Some surveys take a few days: you answer a set of questions every day, and you get your reward when it is completed. These pay more, because they take more of your time.

I cannot say how the focus groups work, because I was never invited to one while I was testing the site.

Referral program£0.50 per referral

You share your invite link. When someone signs up as a member of the panel through it, you earn £0.50 once they finish registering.

You do not have to meet a certain condition to earn the reward. The downside is that it only pays a small amount, which is not surprising, because it takes very little effort.

How much can you make?

The site says you earn £0.50 for short surveys. Surveys that take longer to finish pay more, and focus groups tend to pay significantly more.

Even though the £25 threshold is relatively high, you will not have a hard time reaching it, because there is a decent number of opportunities at any given time. So you can more or less earn regularly.

Overall, Opinium will not give you a full-time income. But I would still say it has a decent earning potential, mainly because it offers a good number of opportunities to earn.

Payout methods and minimum

MethodMinimumNotes
Direct bank transfer£25The most convenient option, in my opinion
Vouchers£25Redeem your earnings for various vouchers
Check£25Sent by postal mail, so it can take a while
Charity donation£25Donate your earnings to a charity the site supports

Overall, Opinium’s payment system is relatively straightforward, and I like that it offers direct bank transfer. For more sites with this method, see the top sites that pay via direct bank transfer.

Who can join Opinium?

Opinium is only available in the UK and Northern Ireland, and you must be at least 18 years old. If you live somewhere else, this panel is not for you.

To become a member, you complete the registration survey. It takes less than a couple of minutes. Opinium then emails you a confirmation link. Click it to finish your registration, and you can log in and start earning.

Opinium is not always accepting new members. If that happens, check back at a later time.

Opinium has no app, but the member dashboard is optimized for mobile use, so you can answer surveys on your phone. The dashboard is intuitive, and you will easily figure out how to navigate it.
