Mobee’s website is no longer accessible. Mobee had already announced that it was shutting down, so this is no surprise. You cannot join or earn on it now. I keep my review below as a record. The sites I would pick instead are further down.

Mobee was a mystery shopping app in the US and Canada that gave you points for missions in stores. It has now closed. I tested it myself before that. Below is what I found, and which sites I would pick instead.

The short answer

Mobee has closed. Its website is no longer accessible, and you can no longer join or earn there.

When it was running, it was a legit mystery shopping app that paid you for missions. But it was not a great one: the missions did not pay a lot, there were no cash rewards, only gift cards, and the number of missions depended entirely on where you lived.

What I like
  • Offered an interesting way to earn rewards
  • The app was user-friendly
  • A low payout threshold
What I don’t like
  • Mobee has closed
  • Limited ways to earn
  • No cash rewards
  • Only in the US and Canada

My experience with Mobee

I installed Mobee and went through its missions, achievements, referral program, rewards and support. This is what I did myself, and what I did not test.

Was Mobee legit and safe?

Mobee has closed, so you can no longer join or earn on it. When it was running, it was legit, because it rewarded you for the missions you completed. These were the catches.

  • It has closed

Mobee’s website is no longer accessible. It had announced that it was shutting down.

  • No cash rewards

You could only redeem gift cards, and the closest thing to cash was a Visa eReward virtual account gift card. If a mission needed a purchase, you spent cash but got it back as points.

  • Time limits and full missions

Most missions had to be completed within around 15 to 60 minutes after you started them, and they closed once they reached their maximum number of completions.

  • Rejected missions

Two readers report that a lot of their missions were rejected, for reasons they found absurd.

My takeMobee has closed, so it is no longer an option. When it was running, it was not a bad mystery shopping app, but not a great one either: the missions paid little, there was no cash, and it all depended on your city. See the alternatives below.

How you earned on Mobee

There were three ways to earn points. Tap each one to read more.

Missions500 to 900 points
Mission list of Mobee

Missions were mystery shopping assignments. You usually bought a product in a store and gave feedback on the product, the store or its service, without the staff knowing.

Once the app knew your location, you saw the missions on a map or in a list, sorted by distance or by points.

You read the mission brief carefully and pressed “Start Mission” only when you were ready, because you usually had around 15 to 60 minutes to finish it. Most missions had a maximum number of completions.

When you finished, the points went to your Mobee balance.

AchievementsUp to 2,000 points
Mobee achievements

Mobee gave you bonus points for reaching a number of completed missions: 100 points after 1 mission, 300 points after 7, and 2,000 points after 30.

That was the last achievement, so you could only earn a fixed number of points this way.

Referral program300 points
Mobee referral program

You shared your invite code, and the person you invited entered it when registering.

You got 300 points once your referral completed their first mission, so it only paid off with people who really wanted to be mystery shoppers.

How much could you make?

Most missions paid around 500 to 900 points, worth $5 to $9. That is not bad, but for a mystery shopping app it is not that good either.

The number of missions depended mostly on your location. In my experience, major cities had the most. If you did not live in one, you could not expect to earn a lot.

How Mobee paid

You exchanged your points for rewards. The minimum was 500 points, a $5 gift card of your choice.

RewardMinimumNotes
Gift cards500 points ($5)Some only available in certain countries
Visa eReward virtual accountIts own number of pointsThe closest thing to cash

Mobee offered no actual cash rewards. When a mission needed a purchase, you got the money back as points, included in the mission reward, so you spent cash but got it back as a gift card.

For sites that pay in cash, see the top sites that pay via PayPal.

Who could join Mobee?

Mobee was only available in the US and Canada.

You installed the app and signed up with your Facebook account or your own login details. Then you set up your profile and location to find missions.

      • It keeps getting worse I did about 12 in the last five weeks been waiting on the last few. They are rejecting for really absurd reasons and one was changed to approved. They said wait 5 business days for the points. It’s been 5 business days. They never respond directly to wait I am saying just vague emails thanking me for my patience.

    • Yes. I’m looking for tips because I just started and have had 3 of 6 rejected. Nonsense requirements (how covert can you be in front of a small store’s checkout counter??), and really flimsy reasons for rejection.
