I tested Mercury Opinion to see if it is worth your time. It is legit and pays decent gift cards per survey, but surveys are very few and far between. Below is what I found, and which sites I recommend instead.
Legit, but surveys are very few and it pays only in gift cards
Decent rewards per survey and no threshold. US only, no cash, and a survey every couple of months if you are lucky.

The short answer
Mercury Opinion is legit. You can really earn rewards from the surveys you answer. It is not a bad site. However, it is not that good either.
Each survey pays a decent $2 to $20 in gift cards. But there are very few surveys, so you cannot reliably earn from it. It does not offer cash rewards, and it is only for people in the US. It can be a secondary site, not a primary one.
- Decent rewards per survey
- No payout threshold
- Gift cards arrive by email within 48 hours
- Simple sign-up
- Very limited earning opportunities
- No cash rewards, only gift cards
- Little useful information on the website
- Only available in the US
- No member dashboard and no app

Is Mercury Opinion legit and safe?
Yes, Mercury Opinion is legit, because you can really earn rewards from the surveys you answer. But that does not make it a site worth joining. Here is what you should know.
- There are very few surveys
You can consider yourself very lucky if you get to answer a survey once every couple of months. This is usually the case with niche survey sites like Mercury Opinion.
- Gift cards only
Mercury Opinion does not offer cash rewards. If you prefer cash, choose a site that pays through PayPal.
- Text replies can cost money
If you opt in to text messages, you can answer short polls with one-word replies and still get a reward. But charges apply for replying to their text messages. See its Terms and Conditions for the supported carriers.
- Little information on the website
The FAQ only covers three topics, and you cannot easily find the link to it anywhere on the website. For questions, you have to email or call.
- Only for the US
Mercury Opinion is only for people who live in the US. If you live somewhere else, it is not for you.
My takeIn my opinion, Mercury Opinion is not a bad site. However, it’s not that good either. Even though it offers decent rewards, the surveys are very few and far between, so you can’t reliably earn from it. I would only recommend it if you need a secondary site and you are okay with earning gift cards instead of cash.
Mercury Opinion has very few surveys. The top sites in your country give you more ways to earn, most of them in cash.
See the best sites in your countryHow you earn on Mercury Opinion
There is only one way to earn: paid surveys. If you opt in, some surveys come as short text-message polls.
Paid surveys by email$2 to $20 each
There is no member dashboard you can log in to. The survey invitation comes by email, with the link to the survey and the reward you earn for completing it.
Click the link, answer the survey and submit it. Then wait for your reward, which also comes by email.
The surveys are usually about health care, current events, politics and spending habits. The process is very simple, but there are very few surveys.
Polls by text messageIf you opt in
If you opt in to receive text messages, some survey invites come by SMS. Think of them as polls: you reply with a one-word answer and still receive a reward.
Keep in mind that charges apply for replying to their text messages.
How much can you make?
It mainly depends on how many surveys you can answer. Each survey pays $2 to $20, and longer surveys pay more. The time-to-money ratio is actually not bad, in my opinion.
But there are very few surveys. You can consider yourself lucky if you get to answer one every couple of months. That is why I would consider its earning potential very low, and why it is not a site to earn from regularly.
How you get paid
| Reward | Minimum | Speed |
|---|---|---|
| Gift cards: Amazon, UberEats, Starbucks, Target and more | None | By email within 48 hours |
Every time you complete a survey, you receive the promised reward as a gift card. It is good that you do not have to reach a threshold. This is usually the case with survey sites that do not have a member dashboard.
Mercury Opinion does not offer cash rewards. If you prefer cash, see the top sites that pay via PayPal.
How to sign up for Mercury Opinion
Fill out the registration form on the Mercury Opinion website. If you want survey invites by text message, add your mobile number. If not, skip that field.
After you submit the form, you wait for an invite. It is a very simple sign-up process, but remember that it is only for people who live in the US.
