MobileXpression pays you in gift cards for letting its app collect data about how you use your phone. I tested it. It is legit, but it only pays gift cards and the app is intrusive. Below is what I found, and which sites I recommend instead.

Legit passive app, but gift cards only and intrusive
Earn credits just by keeping the app installed, and claim a $5 gift card after your first week. No cash.

The short answer
MobileXpression is legit. It is a market research panel owned by Comscore, and it does pay you for participating. You earn mostly passively, just by having its app on your phone.
But the app collects data about your online activity, and you can only get gift cards, not real money. The installation is a bit complicated, and its VPN can cause problems on other survey sites. It can be an easy way to earn some gift cards, if you do not mind the app.
- Passive income: the app does the work
- Low payment threshold: a $5 gift card after your first week
- Owned by Comscore, a known research company
- Tells you right away if you do not qualify for a survey
- No real money, only gift cards
- The app is intrusive: it monitors your activity
- Mobile only, with a constant internet connection
- The app’s VPN can get you in trouble on other survey sites
- Few survey invitations
My experience with MobileXpression
I registered, installed the apps and made a video that shows and explains everything. This is what I did myself, and what I did not test.

- Device, carrier and a text message codeA bit more complicated than other apps
- The registration, with device and carrier selection
- Installing both apps and turning on the permissions
- Earning credits with the app in the background

- A gift card redemption. My review does not show a reward I claimed.
- The data the app uses on a mobile plan. I am not sure whether it is significant.

Is MobileXpression legit and safe?
Yes, MobileXpression is legit and does pay you for participating. But legit does not mean it is right for everyone. Here is what you should know.
- The app monitors your phone use
That is the whole purpose of the app. It collects data about your online and other activities, anonymously, and combines it with other users’ data. MobileXpression guarantees it does not collect personal information like credit card numbers and passwords. If you do not like software that monitors you, this is a deal-breaker.
- Its VPN can get you banned elsewhere
MobileXpression Connect is a VPN app. Most survey and GPT sites detect a VPN and often ban accounts for it. You cannot turn it off, because then MobileXpression does not work. Do not take surveys from other sites on the device where MobileXpression is installed.
- Accounts can be blocked for low activity
In 2023, a reader wrote that after two weeks their account was locked, and support canceled their gift card order because the account did not meet the activity and participation requirements.
- It needs a constant internet connection
The app uses your mobile data. I am not sure whether the data use is significant, but it is something to consider without a plan with free data.
My takeMobileXpression lets you earn without doing anything, but its lack of versatility is the major downside: it only works on a mobile device, and it does not pay real money. If you want cash, the best survey sites in your country offer better earning opportunities. If you do not mind having the app installed, it can be an easy way to earn some gift cards.
MobileXpression only pays gift cards and its app monitors your device use. Check availability only if those trade-offs suit you.
Check MobileXpression availabilityHow you earn on MobileXpression
There are 2 ways to earn. The app is where almost all of it comes from. Tap one to read more.
The mobile appMain earner, passive
Install the app, tap the icon and allow MobileXpression to collect data from your device. It then works in the background, and you earn credits every week it is installed.
Companies pay for this market research to plan their mobile marketing. That is how MobileXpression can pay you for having the app installed. The longer you use it, the more credits you earn.
Mobile surveysOccasional
From time to time, you get a survey invitation. Each survey shows its cash value as the reward. If you are not eligible, you are told right away, so you do not waste time.
Surveys are only offered occasionally, so you will not earn a lot from them.
How much can you make?
You cannot earn real money from MobileXpression. The only rewards are gift cards. You can claim a $5 gift card after your first week of use, and MobileXpression guarantees you can claim a $5 gift card every week you participate.
Based on my experience testing it, that is doable, since you do not have to do anything other than use your phone as normal. The website does not say how many credits you get each week.
If you want cash, see the best PayPal survey sites.
Rewards and minimum
| Reward | Minimum | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gift cards from the rewards catalog | $5 gift card | After your first week, then every week you take part |
Your credits show in the app and in the member dashboard. According to the website, there is a great selection of retailers.
Is MobileXpression available in your country?
MobileXpression is only available in select countries, and the site does not say which. The best way to check is to try to register. Pick your country to see where MobileXpression stands on my list of the best sites there.
What 5 readers told me
This review has 5 comments since 2020: 3 from readers and 2 replies from me. These are the things readers asked about.

A reader’s first gift card order was canceled and the account blocked for not meeting the participation requirements.
“… is there a way to switch OFF the MobileXpression VPN? I have already joined many survey sites & I don’t want to be banned/suspended from them because of this reason.”
Mikael: You cannot turn the VPN off because then MobileXpression will not work. So if you want to use it, I would suggest using it on a different device than where you are using other survey and GPT sites to be on the safe side even though it is quite inconvenient.
“So signed up for it, downloaded it on my phone, and waited 2 weeks. Then went to check rewards and was informed my account was locked.”

Hey Mikael! MobileXpression Panel is now available on Google playstore with a rating of 4.1/5 (42k reviews).
One more thing, is there a way to switch OFF the MobileXpression VPN? I have already joined many survey sites & I don’t want to be banned/suspended from them because of this reason. On the other side, having this app(& doing nothing in it) seems a really nice way to earn extra cash/gift cards.
Lastly, I don’t understand why do they have a VPN with it? What’s the point? Is it to override the other VPN apps we have? So that, if we want to use an VPN (for whatever reasons), we will be forced to use this one?
Thanks for your time & reply.
Most of these type of data collecting apps also have a VPN. They say it is to make sure it can connect properly and for security reasons – but it definitely can be risky to use it on the same device as you are using other survey and GPT sites.
You cannot turn the VPN off because then MobileXpression will not work. So if you want to use it, I would suggest using it on a different device than where you are using other survey and GPT sites to be on the safe side even though it is quite inconvenient.
Hey Vivek, this might be coming very late, but you can always go into App Info and then Force Stop, to prevent the VPN from affecting other apps/sites. When you’re done, don’t forget to go back and turn it back on – before your weekly anniversary if you want credits for that week.
