I tested the Gauge Research app to see if it is worth installing. It pays a decent amount per survey, through PayPal or gift cards from $5, but surveys are few and far between. Below is what I found, and which sites I recommend instead.
Legit and pays decently per survey, but there are few surveys
Pre-screened surveys and PayPal from $5, but too few opportunities to earn reliably. Best in the US, UK, Canada and Australia.

The short answer
Gauge Research is a legit survey app that pays a decent amount per survey. Most surveys are pre-screened, so you do not go through a qualifying process.
But it does not offer a lot of opportunities to earn, so it is not something you can reliably earn from. It works as a secondary app if you live in the US, UK, Canada or Australia. For a main way to earn, there are better sites.
- The app is user-friendly, without annoying pop-up ads
- Offers convenient payout methods: PayPal and gift cards
- Pre-screened surveys, so no qualifying process
- Decent pay per survey
- Email or SMS alerts when a survey is available
- Limited earning opportunities
- Mobile only, no desktop version
- Most opportunities are for the US, UK, Canada and Australia
- The referral program only unlocks after a while

Is Gauge Research legit and safe?
Yes, Gauge Research is a legit survey app. Its problem is not trust, but how little there is to do. Here is what you should know.
- Few surveys
Surveys are pre-screened, so you do not have to qualify. The downside is that they are few and far between, so it is not a great way to earn regularly.
- Mostly for four countries
You can sign up anywhere in the world, but most opportunities are for people in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. Elsewhere, you might find it hard to earn.
- Research opportunities are not guaranteed
Interviews and focus groups can pay $100 or more, but Gauge Research only reaches out in some cases. I never got one while testing the app.
- An unclear referral program
The referral program only unlocks after you have been a member long enough and answered quite a few surveys. It is not clear what counts as a successful referral.
My takeGauge Research is not a bad survey app, in my opinion. To be fair, it pays a decent amount per survey. But it does not offer a lot of opportunities to earn, so set your expectations properly. If you live in the US, UK, Canada or Australia, use it as a secondary app.
How you earn on Gauge Research
There are 3 ways to earn. Paid surveys are the main one. Tap one to read more.
Paid surveysAround $1 to $5
Opt in to email or SMS notifications, and log in when a survey is available. You see a red notification in the Surveys section. Most surveys are pre-screened, so you are already eligible.
Most surveys take around 5 to 10 minutes. The longer ones pay more, so you may want to prioritize them. After you finish, you get the stated reward.
Research opportunities$100 or more
In some cases, Gauge Research reaches out with 1-on-1 interviews, focus groups or other research for brands that need more specific feedback. They pay much more, but they are not guaranteed. I never got one while testing the app.
Referral program$5 per referral
The referral program unlocks after you have been a member long enough and answered quite a few surveys. You get $5 for every successful referral. It is not clear how Gauge Research defines a successful referral. That becomes clear once it is unlocked.
How much can you make?
Gauge Research pays a decent rate per survey: around $1 to $5 for surveys under 10 minutes, based on what I observed while testing it, and more than $10 for longer ones. Research opportunities can pay more than $100.
But there are not a lot of surveys, so it takes quite some time to earn a significant amount. That is why I do not consider it a great source of extra income.
Payout methods and minimums
| Method | Minimum | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PayPal | $5 | Through Tremendous |
| Gift card of your choice | $5 | Through Tremendous |
Every survey adds a set amount to your balance. Payouts go through a platform called Tremendous. That is an extra step, but it is simple, and you get used to it after a couple of tries. For more sites with convenient payouts, see the top sites that pay via PayPal.
