I have been a CrowdGen member for years and checked how its projects, payouts and support work. It is legit and the pay per project is decent, but getting accepted for a project is the hard part. Below is what I found, and which sites I recommend if you want to earn sooner.
Legit project work, but no guaranteed way to earn
Decent pay per project and PayPal or Payoneer payouts. You have to be accepted for each project, and projects are only in certain locations.

The short answer
CrowdGen is legit. It is the project platform of Appen, a company that collects and labels data for artificial intelligence systems, and it was called Appen Tasks, Appen Crowd and Appen Connect before. Most projects pay a decent amount by industry standards.
But you only earn if your application for a project is accepted, and projects are only available in certain locations. It takes patience, and it is not something you can reliably earn from.
- Offers decent pay per project
- Pays via PayPal and Payoneer, plus bank transfer, Airtm or an e-wallet
- Good support with a help page and support tickets
- An app to apply for projects on your phone
- Limited earning opportunities
- Takes some patience to earn
- You must be accepted for each project
- Projects are only available in certain locations
- The work needs a computer
My experience with CrowdGen
I have been a member of CrowdGen, under its different names, for years. I checked the projects, the application steps, the payout options and the support. This is what I did myself, and what I did not test.
- First checked
- July 2020Review first published Jul 24, 2020
- Latest retest
- Checked: projects, payout options, support
- Payout options I saw
- PayPal, Payoneer, bank transfer, Airtm, e-walletThey have changed over the years I have been a member
- Payout
- Not reachedI did not reach the payout threshold. For me, it was not worth the time.
- Doing tasks to earn
- The project list, the project details and the application steps
- The payout options in the member dashboard
- The help page and the support ticket form
- The Appen Mobile app
- A payout. I did not reach the payout threshold, so my review does not show a payment.

Is CrowdGen legit and safe?
Yes, CrowdGen is a legit way to earn. But that does not mean it is a good and efficient way to earn extra cash. Here is what you should know before you apply.
- No guarantee you get work
Applying for a project does not mean you will be accepted. CrowdGen only accepts people who are eligible for the project, and many projects need specific skills. There is no guarantee how many projects you will get to work on.
- Projects are location-specific
You can register from anywhere, but projects are only available in certain locations, so you have to live in a certain country to be eligible. Some projects also require you to work on-site, or to go on-site from time to time.
- Applying works like a job application
You become a member by applying for a project with an application form and your resume. Filling out your profile can help, according to CrowdGen. Read the project details carefully before you apply.
- It takes patience
It can take some patience to find work here, because you will not always be eligible for the projects. How long it takes to hear back varies a lot by job, and if you are not accepted, you might not hear back at all.
My takeCrowdGen can be a way to earn some extra cash on the side if you do it with the right expectations, in my opinion. You need to be aware that it does not offer a guaranteed way to earn, so it is not something you can reliably earn from. Getting accepted for a CrowdGen project takes patience. These sites let you start earning in your country right away.

There is only one way to earn: projects that you apply for.
ProjectsSet amount per project
Click the View Projects link to see all available opportunities. The application is also how you sign up: you apply for a project before you get access to the member dashboard. That is different from most sites, where you sign up first.
You find projects in creative writing, data collection, linguistics, search evaluation, social media, transcription and translation. Click “Apply” to see the full details of a project, including your responsibilities and the pay rate.
Some projects can be done remotely, some require you to be on-site, and hybrid projects ask you to go on-site from time to time. Always read the details carefully before you apply. CrowdGen also took over the Figure Eight tasks that used to be on several Get-Paid-To sites.

How much can you make?
It mostly depends on how well a project pays and how many projects you can do. Most projects pay a decent amount by industry standards, so you will not be underpaid.
The problem is that there is no guarantee you can earn at all. Your application has to be accepted, and the projects are quite specific, so you need certain skills. Overall, I would consider its earning potential quite decent. The real challenge is getting into a project.
How you get paid
| Method | Notes |
|---|---|
| PayPal | Removed for a while, and available again |
| Payoneer | Available |
| Direct bank transfer | Available |
| Airtm | Available |
| E-wallet | Available |
For every project you finish, you are paid a certain amount, which is credited to your account. Set up your payout option in the member dashboard as soon as you are accepted. A personal PayPal account is fine.
I think it is great that CrowdGen gives several choices now. For more sites with these methods, see the top sites that pay via PayPal and online jobs that pay via Payoneer.
How to apply to CrowdGen
Open the project list and click “Apply” on a project you are eligible for. Fill out the application form and submit your resume. It is more like applying for a job, in my opinion. Follow the instructions you get for the project.
If you are accepted, you get access to the member dashboard. Set up your payout option there before anything else, and fill out your profile.
You can apply for projects in the Appen Mobile app for Android and iOS, which has all the features of the dashboard. For the work itself, you need a computer.

Hi. Can you please help me. I downloaded Appen from play store and then CrowdGem also from play store. There was a lot of signing up and I needed to scan my legitimacy. Is that normal? Do you guys all do that? Please help

Hi sir i’m curious I just started apply my application throught this company, and based on your experience how long does it take to get an email from them to comfirm that you are pass to get a job or not. 1week, 2week or less?
It varies a lot depending on the job. If you do not get it, you might not even hear back from them.
I did. Support team only asnwer I had to continue my register into Payoneer in order to get tasks, so I went back and did it. Then I haven´t get any tasks yet and I am on the way to see if I will get any job. Further to go on reading articles outside those webesites to learn more and gain confidence. Thanks for your response.
You are welcome.
Hello Mikael, great thing that I find out your website. I was worried about if Appen was legit or not. Now that I know Appen legit (in México?), would really appreciate your opinion about my experiences with this website:
I singed up about two weeks a go and haven´t started doing any task yet. Since then, I´ve applied for several tasks that asked me to install the Appen app, remove all type of extensions of the Chrome browser, download their own Appen browser, verify my celphone through a QRcode, take my self a picture through their website, pass a qualification exam or quiz, share my FB & instagram accounts, sing long sofisticated contracts that sets my email adress and celphone would be intercepted to asing tasks related to my conversations or interests and create a windows live ID. Also, to get paid, had to create an account in Payoneer wich informs I will pay “$3.00 – Every time you receive a payment & USD to MXN conversion fee – 2.00% above average market rates”. After I´ve followed all the instructions I get an email telling something like thanks for complete your file, consider your self on the list for the time a job shows up, but it doesn´t mean will get any as the demand as well still check on your profile. By now, I feel my whole intimacy is on the table and haven´t done any task or cash. Coupple of them already disapear or clossed the process without inform whats going to happen with my data. So, as you may see, the website has improved its resources as well its requirements. What should I think about them? Are they serious or am I being hacked?
If you have any doubts like this, you need to contact their support.
Their website requires to disable the VPN (Virtual Private Network) which I wouldn’t want to do because I think I am safer with my VPN on. Although I have already created an account and linked my paypal. I emailed their customer service for a request of deletion of my account.
Thanks for sharing your experiences and opinion.
Should I set my paypal business account or just using my personal account to get my payment
Personal account is fine.
I have already signed up and need to recover my original password to get back into my account just in case auto sign in does not work. Please email me. I don’t want to get locked out. Thanks.
You need to contact their support about this.
